As the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity comes to a close, and countries prepare to adopt a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, the latest edition of FAO’s State of the World’s Forests examines the contributions of forests – and of the people who use and manage them – to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
It assesses progress to date in meeting global targets and goals related to forest biodiversity, examining the effectiveness of policies, actions and approaches, both in terms of conservation and sustainable development outcomes.
The report comes against the backdrop of the COVID-19 crisis, which has thrown into sharp focus the link between the health of people and that of the ecosystem, underscoring the importance of conserving and sustainably using nature.
